Celebration of our Gifts and Talents
Songs Spirituals Readings
ROBBERY OF A CONTINENT
Waves from the sea
Brought unto me
The news of my ancestors;
How they travelled all jammed,
Snatched and in a small hole crammed,
When they left the continent;
Wide open space, and life content.
Rivers told my soul
They’d all been bold
But they all didn’t survive.
Only a few were still alive;
Respect for their lives disappeared,Author of
When forced from the continent;
With wide open space and life content.
The new minority,
Having no seniority.
Twenty two percent of the world’s land;
Of earth’s continent, it runs second.
Living in tenement held by so-called superior.
Ripped from the continent;
Where they had wide open space to their content.
Tacit winds of ill omen,
Mourn the death of our men;
A people in thrall of men spewed from afar.
Generations at dis-ease; a permanent scar;
Gems robbed and sold for no profit to us,
When they raped the continent;
Leaving wide open space to their own content.
Life started in Motherland,
Love started with the African.
The lines of the Sahara quite distinct;
Beautiful Kilimanjaro, in indelible ink.
African Diaspora robbed of its dignity.
Grabbed; nay torn from the continent,
Leaving wide open space and life in discontent!
God gave us His son, so our lives would be won;
Not lost at sea, but our souls would be free
If we claimed the victory,
Through the principles of:
1) Umoja = Unity
2) Kujichagulia =Self-determination
3) Ujima = Collective work and Responsibility
4) Ujamaa = cooperative Economics
5) Nia = Purpose
6) Kuumba = CreativityAnd
7) Imani = Faith.
Faith to believe in all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle!
