Rev. Courtney Bryant, Ph.D

Reverend Dr. Courtney Bryant is a multifaceted servant-leader within the faith community. As a preacher, teacher, organizer, artist, and scholar, she has woven her profound faith into every aspect of her life's work, leaving an indelible mark on the church, the community, and the academic realm. Grounded in a profound love for the word of God, a steadfast belief in the redemptive power of Jesus Christ, and a profound openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit, Reverend Bryant's ministry radiates with authenticity and purpose.
Reverend Bryant's academic journey began with her theological training at Duke Divinity
School, culminating in her ordination by the American and National Baptist Conferences in
2012. Her scholarly pursuits led her to Vanderbilt University, where she earned her Doctorate in Religion: Ethics and Society in 2018. She was a cherished faculty member at Manhattan College for six years teaching Womanist Ethics, delving into the rich tradition of women of the African Diaspora's theological perspectives. Her research explores themes of embodiment, sexual- gender ethics, black subjectivity, and justice within Black and Christian communities. Her debut book, "Erotic Defiance: Womanism, Freedom, and Resistance," published by Fortress Press, stands as a testament to her intellectual prowess and her unwaveringcommitment to exploring the intricate interplay between theology, ethics, and embodied experience.
Through her ministries of healing and education, Reverend Dr. Bryant empowers individuals and communities to collaborate with God in the noble task o fcultivating just and whole societies. Guided by her unwavering conviction that humanity was created for freedom and communion with both God and one another, she channels her energies into fostering tangible pathways towards this shared vision.
In addition to her teaching and writing, Rev. Bryant has served in numerous pastoral positions. In her most recent position, as Pastor of Righteous Relations at Al Angles Church, Rev. Bryant a led the congregation in cultivating just, loving, equitable relationships.
In addition to her academic and pastoral roles, Reverend Bryant lends her expertise to churches and organizations, offering guidance in navigating change, resolving conflict, and fostering transformative encounters that leave lasting impressions. With each endeavor, she remains
